Shanghai's glorious past: Art Deco cool

The lobby annexe of the Ruijin Hotel in the French Concession.

Photographed through locked gates, one of the glorious Art Deco style buildings along the Shanghai Bund.

The Park Hotel, where the world's fastest elevators used to be, in the 1930s.

The elaborate ceiling of Art Deco style with Oriental elements took my breath away, at Pacific Hotel.

Gorgeous Neo-classical filigree outside the Pacific Hotel.

A plaque in the lobby of Park Hotel says it all...
