The MAYA & RUHI Jan10 Collection - Monet's Garden

This season, MAYA & RUHI pays homage to my hands-down most favourite painting in the whole wide world, Claude Monet's "Garden Path in Giverny", circa 1902.

I love it so much because it was painted at a point in Monet's life where he had already gained recognition for being the founder of Impressionism, and had just settled his young family in a country house with a sprawling garden, in Giverny, just outside Paris. The painting is of his very own garden. And that's a whole other story...

Monet's garden is legendary, and a masterpiece in its own right. He designed the entire layout himself, putting in pathways, ponds, and even Japanese-inspired bridges. He picked every single species and variety of flower, and determined where each would be grown. And according to their colour and bloom phases, Monet orchestrated the look of his garden through the seasons.

Monet's garden is open to the general public at a small fee today, and is managed by 2 supervisors and 8 gardeners. It would be an absolute I-am-not-worthy privilege for me, if I could make my way to Giverny one day, and revel in Monet's garden for an afternoon. I will be the one walking up and down the paths and bridges with audible whimpers of ecstasy, and most probably, tears of joy rolling down my face. And then to get me back up on the tour bus, you'd have to slap me silly.

As such, the "Monet's Garden" Collection is a celebration of colours and how they all come together. I love how there is a high-density of hues in the painting, and how there is not quite a form, yet you know what's going on, which is what Impressionism is all about.

The pieces are all aptly titled, echoing the garden's beauty and sense of harmony. So most of them are based on flora...

I am particularly proud of the multi-strand chokers. They are so feminine, yet so dramatic; so chunky in itself, yet so delicate to look at. There is a strong connection in both colour and form. And if you look closely enough, you might just find that piece of MAYA & RUHI in "Garden Path in Giverny"... ;)

On My Lust List...

How genius is a Mix 'n Match Watch-n-Bracelet, you tell me? I chanced upon this on one of my many magazine forays, charged towards the website, only to find myself even more smitten by the entire idea of creating your very own piece of La Mer.

You can either shop from the existing collection, or customise a piece for yourself. La Mer's website has this really clever feature that lets you pick your preference of a watch face, a strap colour, and a set of charms, and bungs it all together seamlessly, to entice you into clicking the 'Add Watch To Cart" button.

Very dangerous stuff, if you're the click-happy Internet-shopper. You know, the type that zone out and start chanting "Got. To. Have.". 'Coz seriously, these things are just too goddamned cute!

(Funny thing. I showed Maya the website so she could have some fun mixing and matching, and she said, "Why would anyone want to call their stuff 'Lame-er'?")

I am going to try my luck at putting some of my more luxe pieces online. Currently, most of them are at colette. But let's see how this goes...

On A Yoga Tip

I discovered today that I could get into the Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (King Pigeon Pose) quite easily. And boy did it feel GUUUD!

With the elbows pointing to the sky, I got a lovely stretch all through the torso. And then I held the elevated ankle with my hands, arms parallel to the floor, and gave a gorgeous squeeze to the shoulder blades, and a highly liberating opening of the chest.

Best feeling in the world, I tell you.

My next conquest: the Dwi Pada Viparita Dandasana (Inverted Staff Pose)...

More Scenes from London

Here are more pics.

These were from my Me-time, when I marched off to the Victoria and Albert Museum with much excitement. I had the privilege of viewing the exhibition Maharaja: The Splendour of India's Royal Courts. The following snippet is taken off The Luxury Channel.



It was, needless to say, absolutely breathtaking. I even got to see the mind-boggling Patiala necklace "in the flesh"! I have often googled, read about and breathed heavily over pics of this iconic piece of jewelry, and, I tell you, no photography/videography can ever capture the slap-in-your-face bling on this beauty. I was, indeed, very happily, slapped in the face.

On my way to my most favourite place to be in the whole wide world, the Victoria and Albert Museum.

And right-smack next to the V&A, the Natural History Museum. Also pretty awesome, with, among lots of other things, a huge collection of stuffed birds from around the world, and an entire upright T-Rex skeleton in its neo-classical lobby.

The underground walkway that leads you directly from South Kensington tube station to the cluster of museums.

Incredible !ndia on a London cab. Could be cute, could be satirical. Depends on what kind of hang-ups you have. ;) As for the Crown Jewels, let's not go there...

Ah, the gorgeousness of a rose shop (yes, they sell ONLY roses), complete with rose petals strewn outside. SOO-PER!
