Two Years Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the 2nd anniversary of MAYA & RUHI's Etsy shop. And I thought it'd be good fun to have a 15% off sale for a couple of weeks. :)

This Monday Morning...

... I am needing a dose of Ms Mary J Blige. Turn it up!

What a superb tune, and the perfect pick-me-up!

The MAYA & RUHI Oct09 Collection - Tamara de Lempicka

This collection is inspired by the life and works of Tamara de Lempicka. The feel is slightly vintage, with a lot of pearls to reflect the 1930s' "flapper" era, when jazz was all the rage, and women had all but crawled out of their corsets, and were ready to stand for their rights. To vote, to wear trousers, to break from society's restrictive roles for women during that time.

* UPDATE 11 Oct* The entire collection can be seen at my Facebook group. Click here to see! :)

Wrapped Solitaires

From my moodboard...

Tamara de Lempicka was an aristocratic Polish exile of the Russian Revolution, who took the Paris art scene by storm with her inventiveness, ingenuity and kick-ass charm. A sought-after socialite, respected glamour icon, celebrated artist, and indomitable party animal.

De Lempicka’s style has been described as “soft cubism”, and her iconic masterpieces are oftentimes used to represent the Art Deco era. It possesses the feminine sensibility of classic beauty, with a progressive edge that made her work immediately recognisable, and just so signature de Lempicka.

"Lady in Pink"

"Solitaire Noir" and "Solitaire Blanche"

Classical, yet modern. Crisp, yet muted. Heady, yet translucent. The MAYA & RUHI/OCT09 Collection features the Art Deco penchant for pearls, vintage motifs, structural lines with a sense of feminine allure. A celebration of the free spirit and downright fab-ness of Tamara de Lempicka.

"Kizette Sleeping"

"Kizette"

This is my first cohesive collection, and will be launched in KL on October 15th.

Good Luck, Maya!

Maya's final exams have started, and she has very wisely armed herself with a slew of lucky charms. That's on top of having worked very hard studying and revising the past few weeks. I am so proud of her! :)

All the best, sweetheart!

Erm... would that be magic spaghetti?

Gratuitous fabulous jewelry pic

Absolutely GOR-GEOUS! This is designed by a fellow-blogger-turned-friend, Sharlinn. She is based in Bangkok, Thailand, and designs children's clothing and super-fancy jewelry like you see below.

This serious piece is of South Sea pearls and diamonds... *SLURP*

Super thing about this piece is that the diamonds are set on a separate frame. Which means they are detachable, and you can wear them pearls on an everyday-luxe basis, and slip on the diamonds for special occasions. So cool right?! Outrageously gorgeous, super-luxe, AND functional. *sigh* :)

If you're into customising super jewelry, you can drop Sharlinn a line via her blog.

Where's Isaac?

I swear, Isaac Mizrahi is the best thing that has ever happened to Liz Claiborne. Relegated to being aunty-wear, Liz Claiborne had become the female Crocodile, with a bit less "cult" and a lot more "boring". Seriously, it was pretty painful to look at.

But since Isaac Mizrahi's taking over the helm, the brand has enjoyed a new lease of life. Now it's fun, it's chic, and so bordering deliciously on "Gossip Girl". He is keeping its conservative mien, but with updated silhouettes and more fresh and spunky palettes. And now, it's just-plain cute.

Just like the ad campaigns. Everyone in it is wearing Liz Claiborne. Only one person is a supermodel. And Isaac Mizrahi (whom I have always thought is one of the cutest things ever) is peering from somewhere... See if you can find him.

I Did It!

A pat on the back for myself, 'coz today I managed to stay up in Bakasana (also known as the Crane or Crow Pose) for almost 10 seconds. Woo-hoo!

Next on my "to-conquer" list: Sirasana.

Monthly Giveaway

Up for grabs this October, a chic and modern chunky bangle of grey banded agate and non-tarnish brass wire.

I love how this looks so organic, yet so contemporary. The clean lines of the wires give off an uber-cool minimalist vibe, while the lovely pieces of agate is full character with individual natural banding.

(Is it me, or is my hand looking oddly extra-white?)

Just leave a comment at this post if you are interested in receiving these for free! The winner will be announced on October 4th's post, so you have until then to leave your comment... Good luck!
